| I declared
my intention to be a vet at the age of seven, having surgically
removed the growler box from a much loved teddy bear and repairing
the wound. Very neatly according to my mother. I have never
wavered from this ambition and have never regretted my choice
After qualifying I joined a busy veterinary
hospital in Plymouth. I spent twelve very happy years there
gaining invaluable experience and knowlege from more experienced
I moved to Oxfordshire in 1995 and, in
partnership with four vets from Larkmead veterinary group
in Cholsey, took over The Veterinary Centre from Mr. De Ban
as he retired.
One by one my partners retired leaving
me as sole owner. At the same time the practice has grown
enormously and now employs a total of thirty people.
When my partner, Ian, and I moved to Henley
we had one small boy, Arthur, toddling along behind us. As
the practice has grown, so has my family. We have added two
more sons, Harry and George. Ian and I have married, belatedly
and quietly, celebrating a first wedding aniversary and twenty
one years at the same time.
We share our home in Henley with::
- "Pickle" the Jack Russell
- "Teddy" the Collie x >> more
- Cats "Bob" and "Obviously"
- Sixty year old tortoise, "Lazybones".
Pickle has a passport and is an excellent sailor.
We have an elderly 30 foot catamaran named
"Astraeus" and over the last five years we have
had much fun and adventure in her as we have circumnavigated
England and Wales, visited Ireland and the Isle of Man, cut
though Scotland via the Forth and Clyde canal system, motored
up the Thames to and through Henley, cruised the French Canal
system to Paris and sailed along the Normandy and Brittany
coasts as far as Ouessant ( Ushant ).
During 2008 I took a six month sabbatiacal
and went round the world with my family.
